Chains

If you are planning a ski trip, some countries make carrying and using snow chains compulsory.

However, even if they’re not required by law, it’s a good idea to keep a set in the boot.

Prices start at around £40, but you can save money by hiring.

An alternative to steel chains are textile bags to slip over the tyre, such as the AutoSock (£50). They’re more user-friendly than chains and easier to store.
