The AA torch might be Extra Tough, with rubber caps and a plastic case, but it’s outgunned here.

The single LED, made by Nichia, is no match for the Cree LEDs in many rivals, and it lacks the punch of the multiple-LED units. It’s not helped by a bright centre with little beyond it.
