The Retractable Reel from garden specialist Kingfisher just sneaks the win in a close-run finish. Its secret is that it combines a keen price for an automatic reel with decent build quality.

The click-stop winding system is reliable and fast, plus the connectors, which include a water stop, work well.

It’s best to switch attachments with the water turned off, but overall this is an impressive performer for the money.
