Limited-run Alpine A110 R Fernando Alonso pays tribute to F1 legend

Just 32 examples of the Alpine A110 R Fernando Alonso will be built, each with a bespoke colour scheme and interior detailing

Despite his somewhat unceremonious exit from its Formula 1 team, Alpine is paying tribute to Fernando Alonso with a limited-run version of the hardcore A110 R. Aptly named the Alpine A110 R Fernando Alonso, the new model benefits from a unique paint scheme, interior trims and a suspension setup signed off by the two-time F1 world champion.

The new special edition will be limited to just 32 units, as a nod to Alonso’s win count in Formula 1. It’s finished in the same matte blue exterior paint shade as the current Alpine F1 car, with gloss black elements for the carbon fibre front bonnet and engine cover. The rear end also features a gloss black graphic along its width, along with black swan neck mounts for the R’s rear wing.

Orange brake callipers sit behind carbon fibre wheels signed by the Spaniard, and the A110’s usual French flag emblems have been replaced with yellow, orange and blue items to denote Alonso’s trademark colours. Inside, flashes of orange pick out the steering wheel centre stripe and lightweight fabric door pulls. Alonso’s signature is also embroidered on the seats, and a laser-cut quote - “There is more than one path to the top of the mountain” - has been etched into the sun visors.

Like the standard A110 R, the Fernando Alonso edition is fitted with an adjustable suspension system designed for improved track performance, with Alonso himself having approved the setup around the Barcelona F1 circuit. The R already sits lower than the standard A110, but customers are able to drop the ride height by a further 10mm if desired.

The A110 R’s 1.8-litre turbocharged engine sends 296bhp and 340Nm of torque to the rear wheels for a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds. With a more vocal exhaust system and increased downforce over the A110 S, the R is the most aggressive iteration of the mid-engine coupe, and tops out at 177mph. It’s also 34kg lighter than the S, thanks to carbon fibre body panels, wheels and fixed back bucket seats.

Each of the 32 cars will feature a unique interior plaque in tribute to one of Alonso’s race wins. A signed replica of the world champion’s helmet will also be included for the price, which is yet to be revealed.
