Audi A9 concept teased in the flesh ahead of LA Motor Show

Audi has released a teaser video giving a sneak peak of its A9 Concept saloon, debuting a new design language, ahead of LA show.

Audi is enjoying keeping the automotive press on tenterhooks as it again teases the eagerly anticipated A9 Concept that’s due to debut a new design language for the brand at the LA Motor Show. The new look is set to feature on Audi production models in the near future.

Now officially dubbed the A9 Concept, the car was originally rumoured to be the replacement to the R8 sports car, but it can now clearly be seen as a large saloon in this video:

The teaser, narrated by new design chief Marc Lichte, gives little away, but you do get a useful first sight of more areas of the car's bodywork. You also get an interesting story behind which Audi models, past and present, inspired his brand design rethink. These include the original Quattro, the first generation TT coupe and the Audi A8 of the nineties.

Revealed briefly is a dramatic sloping profile under a cover, as well as a quick-as-a-flash view of the swooping front end and bonnet. You can also spot the intricate and striking wheel design.

Audi has also said the concept will also preview a new interior design language, thought to include a development of its digital instrument cluster seen on the new TT, and rolling out on new models next year.

Further details on the A9 concept are scarce, but Audi’s new head of design will prioritise sportiness, lightweight design and quattro drive in the future. The covers will be taken off in November, when the concept is officially shown at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
