Land Rover Defender Works V8 Selfridges Edition to be revealed in store

Soft-top version of V8 powered Land Rover Defender gets JLR’s new period-style infotainment set-up too

Land Rover Classic has created a new one-off Defender, but the final item has not yet been revealed; it’s being rebuilt in Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street as part of a stunt to promote the reopening of the refurbished store.

The new one-off off-roader is called the Selfridges Edition Defender Works V8, and has been taken apart to fit through the store’s first floor window. It’ll be rebuilt over the next four days in front of customers, but will be placed under a sheet once finished until Selfridges re-opens on 29 October.

The unique item is based on a 2016 Defender 110 pick-up, but has been modified into a 110 Soft Top, finished in iconic Land Rover Bronze Green and with a Selfridges yellow fabric hood. A heritage style folding windscreen has also been added, alongside half-height doors.

Inside, the Selfridges Edition Defender gets chocolate brown leather upholstery, and it’ll feature the new Jaguar Land Rover Classic Infotainment System too – a retro looking infotainment head unit providing Bluetooth, DAB radio and navigation.

Power will be supplied by the same naturally aspirated 5.0-litre petrol V8 found in the Defender Works V8 produced earlier this year to celebrate Land Rover’s 70th anniversary. Power is sent to the four-wheel-drive system through an eight-speed ZF gearbox.
