Peugeot 308 updated for 2017 with fresh look and engines

Peugeot 308 updates include tweaked face with new grille and headlights, joined by new tech and developments under the bonnet

An updated Peugeot 308 has been revealed, boasting styling tweaks, new technology and a new powertrain option, which will go on sale this September.

The fresh design is highlighted by the new vertical grille and bonnet arrangement, complete with the Peugeot badge mounted right in the centre. The refreshed face is completed with new headlights featuring integrated daytime running lights, creating a new front lighting signature.

Two more design changes come the way of the 2017 308 – the new, more aggressive front bumper with its three lower grilles, plus taillights with a new lighting signature.

In the cabin, a new 3D sat nav system with voice-activated controls appears, while Peugeot has also updated the driver assists present on the 308. The features are lifted from the 3008 SUV, meaning automatic emergency braking is now available, alongside a lane departure warning system, adaptive cruise control with a stop function, speed limit recognition and a blind spot monitoring system.

Fresh infotainment is introduced with a 9.7-inch touchscreen which incorporates smartphone link features - Mirrorlink, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are all included.

Under the bonnet, the 308’s three-cylinder petrol engine has been tweaked. It features new at-exhaust emission controls to emit less CO2 and this 1.2-litre engine is now paired with a new six-speed manual gearbox.

A new engine appears in the form of the BlueHDi 130 S&S diesel – a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which gets the same at-source and at-exhaust emissions tweaks as the 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol. Elsewhere, the BlueHDi 180 S&S diesel engine exclusive to the 308 GT is now available with an EAT8 automatic transmission.

The new 308, 308 SW and 308 GTI will be available for delivery from September onwards.
