The country’s hotspots for high servicing and MoT bills have been revealed, with some motorists paying as much as £82.89 more than other towns and cities.

South West London is the priciest place for a service and MoT, costing drivers £195.95 on average, according to research by comparison site MyCarNeedsA.com.

This is followed by Leicester (£187.85), Portsmouth (£186.08), Bristol (£180.72) and Nottingham (£176.32) with the top ten completed by Dartford, Wigan, Bradford, Preston and Crewe, each with an average price topping £170.

MoT loophole could see drivers handed £2,500 fine and penalty points

The cheapest place for a service and MOT is revealed as Stoke-on-Trent with a £113.06 average bill, 42 per cent cheaper than South West London. This is closely followed by Walsall (£117.89), Doncaster (£127.90), Coventry (£127.99) and Swansea (£129.44). MoT changes: safety concerns over 4-year wait for first MoT test

The comparison site compared the cost of 6,800 car services to find where motorists are being hit hardest.

Scott Hamilton, managing director of MyCarNeedsA.com, said: “Our research shows that motorists are paying a premium for servicing, MoT, brakes and clutches in certain parts of England. In fact, motorists are paying 73 per cent more for MoT and servicing in South West London, than they are in Stoke-on-Trent less than 200 miles away.

“There is undoubtedly a postcode lottery and some motorists are being hit hard, paying over the odds for a standard MoT and servicing.”
