Rinspeed Chopster

Is this the meanest-looking Porsche in the world? Sitting a substantial 70mm lower than the standard car thanks to a modified roof, this is clearly no ordinary Cayenne...

Built by a dedicated team of engineers and stylists, the Rinspeed Chopster is one of the most amazing modified cars available. The conversion is very professional, and not just because of the bodywork changes. Both the engine and interior feel really well made, too.

Powered by a 600bhp, 4.5-litre V8, the hot rod is two metres wide and sits on 23-inch alloys - and we got behind the wheel in an exclusive drive. Called the Chopster and star of the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the newcomer is built by Swiss firm Rinspeed and is based on the Cayenne Turbo. German engineering companies Edag and BSO 2001 have also helped to create it.

On the road, the sheer power at the touch of the throttle lives up to the striking exterior, with the sprint from0-62mph taking just over four seconds. Top speed is 180mph; the standard Cayenne Turbo is capable of 165mph. Meanwhile, the brakes - an upgraded Brembo set-up - are among the most effective we've ever tried.

Inside, there is a specially crafted carbon composite centre console with DVD displays front and rear. And as the miles pile on, the car's aggressive looks really do grow on you. Want one? Then you will need £250,000, plus a lot of patience. Each model is hand-built to order, and there is already a queue.
