Peugeot iOn
We get behind the wheel of all-electric Peugeot to deliver our verdict
The iOn is quiet, comfortable and cheap to run, if not cheap to lease. However, for fleet bosses looking to boost their company’s eco appeal, it could be perfect.
From a wild show model to an electric Peugeot you can order now! The iOn is a tweaked and rebadged version of Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV, and arrives in January.

It’s fitted with new front and rear bumpers, as well as an ESP system to boost safety. Plus, the iOn has a more simple box, with park, reverse and drive modes, instead of the i-MiEV’s economy or performance settings.
Power is from a 64bhp electric motor located at the rear, which runs off a 16kWh battery pack under the floor. As the electric motor is silent and there are no gearchanges, the iOn is really refined at low speeds, and an impressive 180Nm of torque from standstill means there’s plenty of go in town, too. Yet on the open road, it’s sluggish; 0-62mph takes 15.9 seconds.
Peugeot claims a 93-mile range, but get caught in traffic with the heater on full blast, and that figure halves.
The iOn is available on a four-year/£500 a month lease. That’s pricey, but bosses say owners will save £5,000 annually in running costs over a conventional 30mpg car covering 12,000 miles a year.
