Mercedes E63 AMG

High performance Mercedes load-lugger storms in with 6.3-litre V8 power

Here are the pictures that prove Mercedes’ E-Class Estate is loading up on performance! This is the hot new E63 AMG version, which packs a mighty 500bhp 6.3-litre V8 engine.

Making its public debut later this year alongside the saloon version, the new flagship AMG machine will go up against Audi’s S6 Avant and BMW’s M5 Touring offering a 0-60mph time of around 5.5 seconds and a top speed electronically limited to 155mph.

As well as boasting an amazing combination of space and pace, it’ll be packed full of the latest technology including optional ceramic-composite discs and adaptive suspension.

As you can see from this prototype, the new AMG model will get a subtly updated body with slightly wider wheelarches, housing huge 19-inch alloys, a lower front splitter and side skirts, as well as quad exhaust pipes.

Like all E-Class models, driver assistance will be a major theme with a lane-departure warning system, an eye-movement monitor, traffic-sign identification, road-condition sensors, and stability control that accounts for crosswinds, camber changes, and tyre wear as standard. Sales will start in early 2010.
