Caterham Seven 620S 2016 review - pictures

  • Caterham 620S - front cornering

This is the Caterham 620S, a more road-biased version of the Bonkers 620R.

  • Caterham 620S - rear cornering

The softer version of the more hardcore Seven available retails for £5,000 less than the R.

  • Caterham 620S - front tracking

Despite more road-biased pretentions, the 620S still rockets from 0-60mph in 3.4 seconds.

  • Caterham 620S - side tracking

The S (Sport) package brings softer suspension, taller gearing, full weather protection, less extreme tyres, and even a heater as standard.

  • Caterham 620S - front tracking 2

With 310bhp in a car weighing little moer than half a tonne, the 620S is massively fast.

  • Caterham 620S - interior

A skilled driver is necessary to make the most out of the Caterham.

  • Caterham 620S - dials

The interior is basic but functional.

  • Caterham 620S - dashboard buttons

The heater goes along with heated carbon fibre seats to make it surprisingly usable in poor weather - provided you're gentle on the throttle.

  • Caterham 620S - seats

The heated and padded carbon fibre seats in our test car cost a pricey £1,000 over the standard options.

  • Caterham 620S - front cornering 2

The 620S is definitely more usable than the 620R, but that's mainly thanks to the windscreen.

  • Caterham 620S - rear cornering 2

On the right road, in the right conditions, nothing quite matches a Caterham.
