DS 4 Crossback vs Audi Q3 vs Volvo V40 Cross Country - pictures

In this test we're putting three crossovers against each other - the new DS 4 Crossback, the Audi Q3 and the Volvo V40 Cross Country.

The Crossback is a jacked-up version of the DS 4 hatch.

Since the split from Citroen, DS has grafted its own grille onto the front of the DS 4, giving it a new look.

The Q3 tested here is in entry-level SE trim with a 2.0-litre diesel engine.

The Q3 benefits from a recent facelift bringing it up to date.

The aging Volvo V40 Cross Country adds higher suspension and plastic cladding to the V40 hatchback.

The V40 tested here uses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 118bhp.

None of the cars here are intended for serious off-roading.

The DS 4 still has fixed rear windows, hampering its practicality as a family car.
