New Lexus RX 450h Sport shakes up RX range

Lexus has added a sporty new mid-grade option to the RX line-up, though only for the range-topping V6 hybrid model

Lexus RX 450h Sport

Lexus has revealed a new trim level for the RX SUV, which is intended to inject some additional sportiness into the RX range with a handful of eye-catching styling tweaks.

The RX 450h Sport – only available as a range topping hybrid 450h model – has been revealed for the European market, with UK sales to commence in the first quarter of 2018.

Black exterior detailing is a recurring theme, with a black finish on the large ‘Spindle’ style grille and on the 20-inch five-twin spoke alloy wheels. Also finished in black are the door mirrors, while around the back, the sporty looking rear diffuser also gets a contrasting black makeover.

Final UK specifications have yet to be outlined, but Lexus says that the RX 450h is based on the mid-grade Luxury trim level version of the car, save for one or two small additions and tweaks. As standard, buyers will get LED headlights with automatic high beam, a choice of leather or high-quality fabric upholstery, and a Pioneer premium audio system, with either an eight or 12.3-inch infotainment screen acting as the focal point of the cabin.

Though it gains Sport badging, there are no changes to the powertrain or performance figures. As such, a 3.5-litre V6 hybrid powertrain still sits beneath the skin, developing 308bhp and sending power to an all-wheel-drive system via a CVT transmission. Prices should rise slightly over the £51,645 list price of the RX 450h Luxury model.
