New 2022 Mercedes EQV electric campervan revealed

Mercedes unwraps EQV electric campervan conversion by Swiss company Sortimo Walter Rüegg PLC

Mercedes has started 2022 with intentions to enter the electric campervan market, with a motorhome conversion for its electric EQV van created by Swiss company Sortimo Walter Rüegg, available in Europe now but not yet confirmed for the UK.

Sortimo has previously developed campervan conversions for the smaller Citan and full-size Sprinter, and its EQV camper is a comprehensive reworking of Mercedes' electric van to cater for mobile living requirements.

With an extensive list of options available, Mercedes hasn't revealed pricing for the EQV camper, but we expect a significant hike over the £71,645 base price of the EQV 250 van.

Sortimo’s modifications include a made-to-spec bed, a pop-up roof and a kitchen installation with a sink, gas cooker and refrigerator, along with numerous storage units in the living space. The additional equipment has been designed to be as lightweight as possible to minimise the impact on electric range, and buyers can option two 400W solar panels to power these on board appliances. Rear interior lighting, tinted windows, integrated USB ports and swivelling front seats are also available.

The EQV eCamper can be ordered with either 60kWh or 90kWh battery (based on the EQV 250 and 300 trim levels of the regular electric van), offering 147 miles or 226 miles of range respectively. Range should drop due to the additional weight of the motorhome conversion, however. The larger battery model can charge from 10-80 per cent in 45 minutes, and the EQV is available in both long or extra-long body styles, the latter adding 230mm to the wheelbase.

Inside, every EQV is fitted with a 10-inch infotainment screen and Mercedes' MBUX system. A reversing camera, ambient lighting and LED headlights also feature, along with electric sliding doors for easy access to the rear cabin. Higher spec versions are equipped with smartphone integration, air suspension and a Burmester stereo.
