ML-replacing GLE gets the latest Mercedes family look with recognisable LED headlamps and two-bar chrome grille.

As you'd expect, the GLE will come with an extensive kit list - including plenty of safety equipment such as Collision Prevention, Crosswind Assist, ECO stop-start and Dynamic Select.

A plug-in hybrid version will be added to the range - badged GLE 500e - which puts out 436bhp from a 328bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine combined with a 114bhp electric motor.
The GLE 500e features Mercedes' 4MATIC four-wheel drive system and seven-speed auto gearbox as standard.

The GLE 500e is capable of travelling for 18.5 miles in pure electric mode.
In a bid to take on the recently-announced BMW X5 xDrive40e, the GLE 500e returns a claimed 78g/km of CO2 and 85.6mpg.

The Mercedes GLE will make its debut in New York, replacing the current ML SUV.
For the first time, there will be a plug-in hybrid version badged GLE 550e, while the usual crop of diesels and hot AMG versions will be available.

As with the ML, there will be a full-fat AMG version available. Powered by a 5.5-litre V8, the AMG will put out 577bhp and sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.2 seconds.
Mercedes-AMG GLE 63

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 features more aggressive styling than the standard GLE at the front, with deeper front bumpers and a single-bar chrome grille.
The chassis has been tweaked to cope with the power hike from 518bhp to 577bhp over the outgoing ML63 AMG.

The interior of the GLE falls in line with the latest Mercedes line-up, with recognisable fixtures and fittings lifted from models elsewhere in the range.
AMG detailing will be spread around the cabin, including the headrests.

Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 will get a flat-bottomed steering wheel to contribute to the more performance-focused interior.
Also available on the GLE will be Mercedes' extensive range of optional extras, including a parking pack - consisting of 360 degree camera and Active Park Assist.

The GLE can be specified with a Comfort Pack, which includes automatic tailgate, soft-closing doors and a reversing camera.
There will be a range of colour schemes available for the interior of the Mercedes GLE.

Central screen is controlled via the COMAND dial situated on the centre console, along with a touchpad. The screen can be upgraded to an 8-inch affair.
