Renault reveals updated Trafic range with Combi and SpaceClass variants

Renault Trafic Combi offers multi-passenger transport with SpaceClass positioned as a luxury people mover

Renault has given the two people-mover variants of its Trafic line-up updates for 2021, with new versions of the Trafic Combi and SpaceClass.

The Trafic Combi (named Passenger in the UK) is positioned as a minibus aimed at large families, companies needing staff transport, and taxi firms. It is available in two lengths and offers seating for up to nine people, with plenty of space behind for their luggage.

The SpaceClass version is more of a VIP people mover, and can be specified with leather upholstery and a full business-class interior, with face-to-face seating, a central table and swivelling seats. The new SpaceClass Signature is aimed at the business shuttle market, while the SpaceClass Escapade is intended more as a recreational vehicle.

Design changes for both models include a revised front end with a new grille and LED headlights, while new 17-inch alloy wheels are available, as is a new red paint option.

All versions of the Trafic Combi and SpaceClass are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, available with a range of power outputs. The Combi range kicks off with a 108bhp version that provides a 0-62mph time of 16.5 seconds, and a top speed of 101mph.

Then there’s a 148bhp option, which does the 0-62mph sprint in 13.6 seconds and has a top speed of 111mph. The range tops out with a 168hp model, which covers the same dash in a brisk 10.6 seconds, and goes on to a top speed of 116mph. Both the 148bhp and 168bhp options are available with an automatic gearbox.

These passenger-focussed variants of the Trafic get revised cabins, too, which benefit from a more car-like appearance thanks to the fitment of a sleeker black dashboard, with chrome highlights for the gear lever and air-conditioning controls in Combi variants. The new SpaceClass gets a grey fascia, alongside leather seats and a chrome-trimmed steering wheel.

Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control and Renault’s eight-inch Easylink touchscreen and satellite-navigation system, plus a wireless smartphone charging pad.

There’s also autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning and blind-spot warning, plus auto-dipping headlights, and parking sensors front and rear.
