Nissan Juke-R 2.0: the 200mph crossover

Nissan has revealed more on its Juke-R including power output, top speed and a change of name from Juke-R Nismo to Juke-R 2.0.

Earlier this month Nissan released a teaser image of the Nissan Juke-R Nismo – a new version of its mad Juke-R from 2011 and which will revealed at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Now, however, the car has lost its Juke-R Nismo naming and is instead badged ‘Juke-R 2.0’. While at this stage the reasons behind the name change are unclear, what we do know is that Nissan has completely updated its Juke-R and made it even more crazy.

The old Juke-R’s 545bhp 3.8-litre turbocharged V6 from the GT-R supercar has been tuned to 592bhp - the same as the Nissan GT-R Nismo – promising a sub-three seconds 0-62mph sprint time and a top speed of over 200mph.

Not only does the 2.0 have more grunt, it also sports new bodywork. While it may look as though it has little in common with the regular Juke, the new 2.0 has been restyled to bring it line with the current standard car which was facelifted in 2014. The 2.0 pinches the same new headlamp design, day-running lights and new ‘V-motion’ grille from run-of-the-mill Juke models.

Nissan has also added even more blistered bodywork, too. The front bumper is now carbon fibre and has been redesigned with larger holes to help feed more cool air into the uprated engine. The bonnet is pinched from the standard Juke too, but has been fitted with bare carbon engine cooling ducts. To the side there are new carbon fibre sills while at the rear there’s a new carbon fibre bumper with a large diffuser and more prominent exhaust cowlings.

Inside, the full FIA-specification roll-cage, body-hugging bucket seats and steering wheel mounted paddles for the six-speed dual-clutch gearbox remain, and the Juke-R’s menacing matt black paintwork has been carried over to the 2.0.

There is no word yet on whether the 2.0 will be made, but it’s likely considering that the old Juke-R was made available in very limited numbers for an eye-watering £400,000.

Visitors to Nissan’s stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will get their first glimpse of the crazy crossover, before the car is displayed in the supercar paddock for the rest of the weekend. During Friday, Saturday and Sunday it’ll take on the Goodwood hill climb with Nissan racer Jann Mardenborough at the wheel.
