Here's how the tyres stacked up against each other
The false economy of a no-name budget tyre is once again exposed by our testing. Not only was the Tomket a distant last place in many of the most important tests, it also had the dubious honour of being the first tyre ever to make us car sick lapping the wet handling circuit. The Linglong offers true value for money, costing less than the Tomket and delivering a fair overall performance.
The Falken is a decent tyre that only just falls short of the leading pack. First of these is the fifth-place Nokian, a solid all-rounder that wasn’t far off the podium, and the same goes for the Bridgestone, which is great in the snow, wet and dry. Third was the Continental, a highly accomplished tyre, as was the new Michelin, which was brilliant in the snow, impressive in the wet and the dry, great to drive and economical too. But all were beaten by the Pirelli, an objectively superb tyre plus the best to drive.
Winner: Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3
Once again, the Pirelli stands out in a very strong field, delivering great results in all conditions, including topping the table in the key wet braking test and being great to drive on every surface. All-season tyres come no better.
