New sporty Skoda Scala Monte Carlo on sale, priced from £22,000

Sports-inspired, flagship Skoda Scala Monte Carlo is available in the UK now, with prices starting from £22,680

Skoda’s new, range-topping variant of the Scala hatchback is on sale in the UK now. Carrying the same Monte Carlo badge used throughout the Skoda range, it features a range of racy interior and exterior styling revisions, as well as additional equipment and technology. It’s priced between £22,680 and £25,350, with first deliveries expected to arrive in the Spring.

As standard, the Skoda Scala Monte Carlo comes with a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, a new front bumper, a black radiator grille, a redesigned rear bumper, wider side skirts and a fresh tailgate spoiler. LED headlights also feature, along with a pair of black mirror caps, rear privacy glass and a panoramic roof.

Inside, the range-topping Scala features a sporty steering wheel, LED ambient lighting, aluminium sports pedals and a pair of sports seats, trimmed in black and red upholstery. The headlining is also black fabric, while the gear selector and handbrake gaiter get contrast red stitching.

Like the previously range-topping Skoda Scala SE L, the Monte Carlo is offered with a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle, climate control and chrome trim for the air vents and door handles. A unique set of floor mats and Scala branding on the door sills complete the look.

Buyers have a choice of two petrol engines. The entry-level Scala Monte Carlo is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit, which produces 113bhp and 200Nm of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is available for an extra £1,270.

The more powerful Scala Monte Carlo is powered by the Volkswagen Group’s ubiquitous turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, priced from £24,080. The engine develops 148bhp and 250Nm of torque – and, like the 1.0-litre, it sends its power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. A dual-clutch ‘box can also be specced for the same £1,270 premium.
