New 2020 Vauxhall Insignia: prices, specs and images
Prices and specs have been announced for the facelifted Vauxhall Insignia, which will go on sale in the summer priced from £23,120
The updated Vauxhall Insignia will go on sale in the summer priced from £23,120 and rising to £38,850. The new model features a handful of cosmetic revisions and new on-board technology.
Standard equipment for the facelifted Vauxhall Insignia includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, front fog lamps and a pair of electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors. There’s also a smattering of driver assistance technology, including cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, lane keeping assist and traffic sign recognition.
Inside, buyers get a multifunction leather-trimmed steering wheel, two-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a pair of USB sockets and a seven-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
SRi Nav models are priced from £24,620. The trim-level adds LED ambient lighting, gloss black and chrome window trims, a tailgate spoiler and a pair of illuminated vanity mirrors.
Vauxhall’s mid-range Insignia SRi VX-Line Nav starts from £27,620 and adds a host of extra technology including an eight-inch infotainment system with voice recognition, keyless entry and start and a wireless smartphone charger, two extra USB sockets and a pair of heated and ventilated front seats. Adaptive suspension comes as standard, too.
SRi VX-Line Nav buyers get Vauxhall’s IntelliLux Matrix LED headlamps, too. Each unit houses 84 LED bulbs which, combined with a forward-facing camera, can automatically adjust the beam trajectory to avoid dazzling oncoming road users. Also, despite being more powerful than the Insignia’s old halogen light units, they’re more energy efficient.
There’s also a handful of cosmetic upgrades, including a set of 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, rear privacy glass and a sporty VX-Line body kit. Inside, buyers get an aluminium pedal box, black headlining, perforated leather seat upholstery and a “VX-Line” branded heated, flat-bottomed leather steering wheel.
The comfort-biased Insignia Ultimate Nav starts from £27,620 and features the same level of equipment as the SRi Nav model, albeit without the sporty body kit or the 20-inch alloys – the latter of which are swapped for 18-inch wheels. Buyers also get a set of door step covers, heated front and rear seats and a massage function for the driver’s seat.
Vauxhall’s range-topping Insignia GSi is priced from £38,850. Additions over the Ultimate Nav model include aggressive front and rear bumpers, lower side skirts, a twin-exit stainless steel exhaust system, a GSi tailgate spoiler, 20-inch alloys and red brake calipers.
New 2020 Vauxhall Insignia: engines and drivetrain
Four new engines will be available, with buyers offered their choice of three petrols and one diesel. The entry-level petrol is a turbocharged 1.4-litre three-cylinder unit, with 143bhp and 236Nm of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission and offers claimed economy and emissions figures of 45.6mpg and 144g/km of CO2 respectively.
A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is also available in two states of tune. The lesser-powered version produces 197bhp and 350Nm of torque, while the more potent GSi model has 227bhp and 350Nm of torque. Both variants are mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an adaptive four-wheel-drive system as standard.
The Insignia GSi’s drivetrain features a torque vectoring system, which Vauxhall says improves the car’s cornering ability. It also features an adjustable suspension system with adaptive dampers, adaptive steering and uprated four-piston Brembo brakes.
Finally, buyers can opt for a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine, developing 120bhp and 300Nm of torque. Like the entry-level petrol model, it’s hitched to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while economy and emissions figures respectively stand at a claimed 57.6mpg and 130g/km of CO2.
New 2020 Vauxhall Insignia: facelift updates
Exterior styling changes for the British brand’s Skoda Superb rival are subtle, stretching to some neat sliver exhaust trims for the rear bumper and a redesigned front bumper with a pair of repositioned fog lamps. The headlamps have also been given a slimmer profile and the grille features extra chrome detailing, which brings the Insignia’s styling in line with the brand’s latest design language, seen on the new Corsa.
There’s a significant improvement in safety equipment, too. The Insignia now comes with a forward collision alert system, blind spot monitoring and a couple of extra airbags. Vauxhall has also fitted a rear-view camera and rear cross-traffic alert, which warns the driver of approaching vehicles and pedestrians when reversing out of bay spaces.
