Corsa VXR powers up

More power, stiffer suspension and uprated brakes for Nurburgring edition of Vauxhall's pocket rocket.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR

By Christofer Lloyd

20th April 2011

Infamous for cramming ever more power into ever smaller cars Vauxhall’s VXR hooligans have squeezed an extra 13bhp into the Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition.

With a new total of 202bhp and 280Nm of torque from its 1.6 litre turbocharged engine the little Corsa will race from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and on to a credible 143mph. These increases result from tweaks to the turbocharger and engine management, a sports exhaust and the engine’s new-found appetite for 98 RON petrol.

Helping to harness the extra muscle the chassis and brakes have been beefed up and a mechanical multi-plate limited slip differential added to improve traction and reduce understeer. The VXR Nurburgring also sits on specially commissioned Bilstein springs and dampers that were tuned on the Nurburgring’s notorious Nordschleife north loop and lower the car by 15-20mm.

New 30 per cent lighter Brembo brakes add more stopping bite while the Corsa’s ABS, traction control and stability control have all been recalibrated. Helping the Nurburgring Edition to stand out from lesser Corsas are a stainless steel dual exhaust, forged high gloss grey alloy wheels and Nurburgring logos inside and out.

The Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition goes on sale in late May at £22,295

stainless steel dual exhaust?

I cannot see this being as impressive looking as the Lambo style exhaust fitted to the standard VXR.

Can somebody clarify, I'm sure I read £22k for a Corsa? In my eyes that puts it directly in line with the Audi A1/Mini Cooper/BMW 1 Series, even a half decent spec'd Golf! The Corsa is an old car, it'll depreciate as quickly as it drives and at that price I can't help but wonder who the market researchers were talking to as I really can't see who the car is aimed at, the usual demographic of customer for this car I'm guessing would be early to mid twenties but at £22k I wonder who would buy it! Roll on the £35k VXR Astra!

Joke.

Vauxhall VXR Nurburgring ??

The Porsches must be wetting themselves laughing at this pimped-up shopping trolley, does it have a hook for a fake-copy baseball cap and a pocket for a copy of "Loaded" or other can't-get-a-girl lads mag ?

World domination...

Recording from secret Vauxhall meeting: We'll charge £22k for a Corsa, then we'll make it run on Super Unleaded, just to increase the running costs. Finally, we'll pimp the looks so much that no one in its target audience will be able to afford the insurance.

Then, we'll produce a 1.2 version that looks the same and comes with a set of Nurburgring stickers in the glovebox... and sell THOUSANDS... BWAHAHAHAHA

is it aprils fools day

So now Vauxhall must consider themselves a premuim quality brand, charging £3k more for a Corsa than a Polo.Vauxhall have come along way in the last 5years but are still behind their rivals in all areas. The stainless steel exhaust will at least last longer than the rest of the car

New Corsa VXR

Look whos been to Halfords with £200 for body bits!

£22,295!?!

That's a serious amount of money. My Megane 250 was only £21,995 when I ordered it at the beginning of 2010 which is in a different league and will run rings around this car. What a joke.

Save yourself some money, if you want a small hot hatch, and buy a Clio 200. What Car?'s best hot hatch in the £15-20k price bracket two years in a row.

Citroen will be happy.

Who's laughing at the price of a DS3 racing now?

*Clowns*

You call it a Halfords job, or a Pimped out trolley, because it's a Corsa with some body bits right?.. Well then, what do you call an AMG merc, or a M-Sport BMW?

They too, are just models from the range, with Body panels!
How ever they have an engine which most models don't come with.. So you pay the premium.

£24K will buy you a BMW 118i, Merc C180, A3 1.8.. But they're not exactly 'Hot', or quick.

There are better cars you could buy for the money. But this car is a "Rival" in its own league; Hot Hatches..

fools!

Your all missing the point by a mile! as 343Mr has pointed out, this is in a league of its own.

@snappyuk- You clearly dont know how expensive premium models are to insure for a young driver do you?

@Danny200878 - The only problem with your idea is that the renault will fall apart around you, and most likely leave you stranded on the motorway somewhere. Come back with a credible idea!

@stevie - Your talking rubbish, the porsches are always going to be a better car than this, again come back with something more sensible next time please

Back to the vauxhall - The looks of the car are brilliant, really outlines what this car is - sporty hot hatch. Granted the price tag is a little high, and running on 98 ron petrol is a little pointless.but like when buying all new car models, wait for an ex demo and your onto something!

LOOKS LIKE A QUALITY CAR TO ME

Audi A1 is trying to be something it's not along with BMW 1 series... building such a stylish top of the range Corsa will help sell the lesser models...CLEVER G.M it doesn't matter if the VXR will not sell in huge numbers...
Saying that it's better value and more of a car than it's lesser German rivals
