Renault has revealed prices for the new Clio RS, and it costs £2,000 more than the Ford Fiesta ST

Renault has released UK pricing for its new Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo, which starts at £18,995, or £19,995 for the better-equipped Lux. That’s £100 more than the Peugeot 208 GTi and £2,000 more than the Ford Fiesta ST.

As before, buyers who prefer a more focused driving experience can add the Cup chassis for an extra £450. That lowers the ride height by three millimetres, stiffens the suspension by 15 per cent and adds a quicker steering ratio. It also includes red brake calipers and gloss black 18-inch alloys with Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres.

Standard equipment includes air-con, keyless start and a built-in seven-inch sat-nav, as well as cruise control, sports seats and Bluetooth. Go for the Lux model and Renault will throw in a higher-spec Arkamys stereo, an R-Link multimedia system, TomTom Live navigation and auto lights and wipers. Option include 18” alloy wheels (£185), rear parking sensors (£315). heated front seats (£250), metallic paint (£495) and dark carbon leather upholstery (£1,000).

Whichever model you go for there’s a 197bhp 1.6-litre tubocharged engine under the bonnet, which helps it scramble from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds – 0.2 seconds faster than the outgoing model.

Brave pricing, looking forward to the inevitable group tests.

Good pricing and I look foward to the Road Test

Finally Ford have entered the slightly warmer hot hatch category. However they have left room for Mountune to take the entry level performance of the Fiesta ST to another level to compete with the likes of the Renaultsport Clio and Corsa VXR. Have they left room for an RS version will remain to be seen?

The Fiesta ST is already as quick as the Clio and Corsa without any mountune fettling. 15s of overboost see's to that.
