A recent poll revealed 65 per cent of mums and mums-to-be believe that the diagonal strap of a normal car seatbelt can pose a threat to an unborn baby in the event of an accident.

So British inventor Stephen Weston has now come up with an innovative solution, which is being produced by renowned British racing car harness maker Willans. The manufacturer says the Pregnancy Seatbelt Harness is the first car safety device of its type to be designed specifically for pregnant women.

It works by placing the diagonal portion of a standard car seatbelt behind the wearer, then uses it as an anchor for the piXie harness, which goes around a pregnant woman’s bump more comfortably.

The maker claims that the piXie harness is simple to use, safe and stylish – and although we think it’s a

bit of an expensive solution, what price would you put on the safety of your unborn child?
