Given the number of features crammed into the current generation ofsat-navs, you could perhaps forgive them for getting larger. However,Garmin has now managed to shoehorn all its technology into a sleek15mm-thick unit. That’s 25 per cent thinner than all other nüvis – yetit still boasts six million Points of Interest (POIs) and a micro SDcard slot.

The nüvi 1340 range comes with built-in safetycamera detection software, lane assist, pedestrian mode and WesternEurope pre-loaded mapping.

The 4.3-inch widescreen unitalso has an EcoRoute setting, so you can view suggestions forfuel-efficient navigation. A handy text-to-speech function calls outthe names of upcoming roads, as well as offering turn-by-turndirections.

The lithium-ion battery should last for up tofour hours and a two-piece suction-cup mount, which allows for easyadjustment and quick release, is also included in the pack.
