The spray was the surprise of the test. It’s designed to be used only when you’re stuck, and is easy to apply. Just clear the tyre of snow, spray on, leave to dry for a few minutes and it’s ready to go.

It was no match for the chains or socks, but we were impressed by the step up in grip over the untreated tyre. A spray could be the difference between getting stranded and getting home.
