The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer eDrive uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor as the i8 supercar.

With the petrol engine driving the front wheels and the electric motor driving the rear, this 2 Series Active Tourer is all-wheel-drive.

The combined 217bhp makes the eDrive Active Tourer fairly fast.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged from a mains socket in two to three hours.

The 2 Series Active Tourer can travel up to 24 miles on electric power alone, with a 70mph maximum speed.

The fuel tank is smaller than other 2 Series Active Tourers, restricting the range.

A smart PHEV display is included in the infotainment system.

Elsewhere the eDrive prototype benefits from the same tidy handling and spacious interior as the regular Active Tourer.
