Range Rover
While Reva's NXG doesn't use petrol, this supercharged version of the new Range Rover Sport certainly does, returning a miserly 17.8mpg. But then it is the fastest model that Land Rover has ever made. The standard car is good, yet this is even better thanks to a 30 per cent power boost. That cuts the 0-60mph time by a second to 7.2 seconds, and ups top speed by 10mph to 140mph.
Although in naturally aspirated form the Range Rover Sport has enough power for most drivers, the supercharged model is hugely impressive. Add the excellent Dynamic Response suspension, and the Range Sport is transformed.

Hit the throttle, and there's a muted roar from the 4.2-litre V8, as the unit has been tuned for added low-down torque and refinement. And the sophistication continues with the smooth six-speed gearbox.
While the extra muscle is impressive, more noticeable is the sharper handling. It's all down to the Dynamic Response suspension, which keeps the car more upright in bends. Combined with the 20-inch alloys, this also firms up the ride, but off-road ability remains superb. An option on lesser Sports, the set-up costs between £1,700 and £3,700 depending on the model, but is worth the sacrifice in comfort.
