New 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross gets £26,930 starting price

Citroen C5 Aircross prices have been tweaked, but the SUV retains the same powertrains and trim levels

Citroen brought out the facelifted C5 Aircross earlier this year and has quickly revised the mid-sized SUV’s pricing for 2022. Each of the three trim levels - Sense Plus, Shine and C-Series Edition now start £1,415 higher than before and customers can order theirs now.

The updated C5 Aircross brings with it a host of changes inside and out which are designed to make the car appeal to a more premium audience. The cheapest version, Sense Plus, comes in at £26,930 with 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically folding door mirrors, front and rear parking sensors, keyless go and a reversing camera.

All models receive Citroen’s Advanced Comfort seats. These are designed to keep the front passengers comfortable on longer journeys, and use thicker foam than the SUV’s standard chairs. Heating and massage functions can be optioned, too.

The mid-range C5 Aircross Shine is priced from £28,080. Upgrades over the Sense Plus model include a ‘Dark Chrome Colour Pack’, Citroen ‘Airbump’ inserts, Alcantara upholstery, a black interior trim package and an extended range of safety technology, which adds adaptive cruise control and active safety braking.

Citroen’s range-topping C-Series Edition builds on this specification with a two-tone paint job, anodised bronze exterior trim, a panoramic glass sunroof, a wireless charging pad and a hands-free electrically opening tailgate. There are also bespoke 19-inch ‘Art’ alloy wheels, leather upholstery and more safety technology in the form of active lane assist and highway driver assist. Prices for the flagship trim level start from £30,520.

New 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross: facelift updates

Citroen has given the new C5 Aircross a completely new face, swapping some of the old car’s curves for more “structured” lines, which helps give the SUV a more imposing look. The company says the changes were inspired by the upcoming C5 X.

So, the old car’s split headlights have also been swapped for a set of integrated units that are mounted higher on the car’s face. The space left by the old lamps is now occupied by a pair of large vertical intakes, and there’s a new skid plate at the bottom of the bumper.

Changes at the rear of the car are limited to updated tail-lights, with a new chequered look and darker lenses. The SUV’s distinctive plastic cladding on the lower doors also remains, but is now available in a new range of colours

There’s some big changes inside, too. The facelifted C5 Aircross gets a new dashboard, complete with the same 10-inch infotainment system destined for the new C5 X. The screen is positioned higher up than it was on the old car, which the brand says will help the driver keep their eyes on the road.

The centre console has also been revised, with a new, smaller gear selector and drive mode select button. The storage area includes two USB ports and a wireless charging pad for smartphones – and the space that was occupied by the old touchscreen has been filled by a pair of new horizontal vents.

Boot space remains at 580–720 litres for petrol and diesel versions, with the PHEV model offering from 460 to 600 litres. Like the old car, the rear bench can slide forwards and backwards, to offer a trade of either rear legroom or increased boot space.

Citroen’s Advanced Comfort suspension system is also fitted to the updated C5 Aircross. It uses the company’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushions (basically a secondary set of dampers in place of traditional solid bump stops) to smooth out road imperfections.

New 2022 Citroen C5 Aircross: engine range

Citroen offers a choice of just three engines on the updated C5 Aircross – one petrol, one diesel and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The petrol option is Citroen’s familiar turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder unit, which produces 128bhp.

Both the petrol and diesel engines send drive to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although an eight-speed automatic can be specified as an optional extra. The automatic costs an extra £1,725 with the petrol engine and £1,620 with the diesel.

Prices for the plug-in hybrid option are £35,835 in mid-range Shine trim and £38,275 in range-topping S, as the powertrain is only available with Citroen’s mid-range Shine specification and up. The system comprises a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an 80kW electric motor and 13.2kWh battery pack. Combined, the system produces 222bhp and 360Nm of torque.

Citroen also says the C5 Aircross PHEV can travel up to 34 miles on electric power alone at speeds of up to 81mph. As the system also includes its own on-board 7kW charger, the battery pack can be fully recharged in less than two hours with a Type 2 Mode 3 cable.
