The 1.7-litre diesel engine returns impressive economy of 61.4mpg and 119g/km of CO2. 

Touchscreen in the centre of the dash looks smart and is standard on mid-spec SE Nav models.

Controls are well placed and easy to use, but some of the materials aren't as good as the class-best.

Six-speed manual gearbox is slick and a pleasure to use. There's no need to opt for the auto unless you must have it.

On the move, a sacrifice you have to make for the impressive economy is a lack of pace. 

The 1.7-litre engine begins to struggle when you really push it.
