New 2021 Peugeot e-Boxer electric van on sale from £49,335

Peugeot e-Boxer van joins the e-Partner and e-Expert with a 70kWh battery and a maximum range of 139 miles

The new Peugeot e-Boxer is on sale in the UK now. Prices for the full-size pure-electric panel van start from £49,335 (including the government’s plug-in van grant), which makes it a direct rival for the Fiat e-Ducato and Mercedes eSprinter.

It’s powered by an electric motor mounted on the front axle, which produces 121bhp and 350Nm of torque. Peugeot says that’s enough to haul a maximum payload of 1,150kg and reach a top speed of 75mph.

Buyers can choose from two battery options. The entry-level 37kWh model offers a maximum range of 73 miles while above that there’s a 70kWh battery version, which adds £5,750 to the e-Expert’s starting price and increases its maximum range to 139 miles.

When connected to a 22kW three-phase wallbox, the 37kWh battery can recover a full charge in three hours. The 70kWh unit will achieve the same state of charge in nine hours and both batteries will reach an 80 percent charge in just one hour when connected to a 50kW DC rapid charger.

The electric panel van comes in a choice of three body lengths, the largest of which offers 15 cubic metres of space and a load bay long enough to transport items up to 4,070mm. Those figures are identical to the diesel version, as the EV’s battery is built into the van’s floor.

Peugeot also sells chassis cab and window van variants of the new e-Boxer, priced from £52,010 and £59,750 respectively. The former is designed for conversions, such as a tipper truck or dropside pick-up, while the latter has an extra row of seats in the rear.

The e-Boxer is only available in Peugeot’s Professional trim-level, which comes as standard with heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, rear parking sensors, air-conditioning, and a five-inch infotainment system. There’s also a new rear-view mirror with an integrated display for information on the van’s battery charge and remaining range.

Buyers can choose from a few optional extras, such as LED daytime running lights (£225), underbody protection panels (£150), a heated driver’s seat (£150), a colour reversing camera (£350) and a USB charging socket to replace the standard 12-volt outlet (£30).

There’s a comprehensive optional safety package, too. It’s priced from £850 and adds traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, active safety braking and automatic high beam assist. Blind spot monitoring can also be specified for an extra £600.

Cosmetic tweaks over the diesel Peugeot Boxer are few and far between. There are some blue ‘e’ badges for the front wings, while the gear stick has been replaced by a push-button gear selector, with options for drive, neutral and reverse. There are also six paint finishes to choose from, including Dragoon Blue, Ice White and Volcano Red.
