Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 review

A consistently good tyre with abilities that can be readily exploited. Didn’t shine as brightly this time, up against new and refreshed rivals.

The last time we tested this tyre size, the Goodyear delivered three category wins and came a very close second overall. This time, it delivered decent results, but no outright wins. It was sixth in wet braking, fourth in wet cornering and fifth fastest around the wet handling circuit. Around the track it was delicately balanced and demanded subtle throttle inputs out of tight turns to avoid flares of wheelspin, but with gentle handling it proved effective and set a lap time within a second of the best. In the deep-water tests it was third in a straight line, and seventh in the curve.

It was a similar story in the dry, with a mid-field performance in braking, and sixth on the handling track, although only 0.6sec off the best. It didn’t feel quite as sharp as the keenest tyres but was clean and precise with great traction out of the hairpins and useful composure through the transitions.

It was let down a little by the highest in-cabin noise levels and some abruptness over ridges, but add in competitive rolling resistance and you have a well balanced, competitive tyre that has found itself up against even more impressive designs.

Blackcircles.com says…

“A popular tyre rated 4.7/5 from over 800 reviews. Good handling and excellent grip in wet conditions inspire confidence.”
