The Juke Nismo will cost from £19,995 when order books open in January

Nissan has announced that its sporty Juke Nismo will start at £19,995. Order books open in January, with deliveries beginning in March.

The high-performance crossover will come with a 197bhp 1.6-litre turbo engine that helps the car go from 0-62mph in 7.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 134mph.

Despite the added power, the Juke Nismo has the same fuel economy figure and CO2 emissions - 40.9mpg and 159g/km - as the standard DIG-T model on which it's based.

The car also gets upgraded suspension and a Nismo bodykit. This includes lower front and rear bumpers, wider wings and a modified grille and tailgate spoiler, which are designed to reduce front and rear lift.

On the inside, there's a black centre console, special suede-trimmed Nismo sports seats with red stitching and red Nismo signatures on the dials and gearknob.

Nissan has also confirmed that this will be the first in a new range of Nismo-tuned models for Europe.

I was looking at buying one of these but the 'top spec' performance version just looks like the basic version (pea shooter exhaust for one). That's one reason why I went for a Countryman Cooper S all4 (the other reasons being a CVT autobox and the rear diff on the 4wd eating into boot space). Minus the stupid red mirrors, I'm all for it. Nissan should have brought in NISMO into this country a long time ago.
