Three LEDs are at the heart of this hefty torch from Halfords, which runs off two C batteries. It gives a strong beam, even over a distance, and works well under the bonnet. However, that metal casing with its useful grippy plastic insert is less at home there, as it is a relatively bulky unit and will roll off anything, bar a perfectly level surface.
