New 2019 Audi TT: facelifted Coupe and Roadster revealed

The evergreen Audi TT has been given a mid-life facelift, with extra power and equipment, plus a new special edition

Audi has revealed an updated version of its third-generation TT. Revealed on the 20th anniversary of the iconic sports car the new model features a subtle redesign and more powerful engines, while a limited-run special edition joins the range.

Available as both Coupe and Roadster from launch, the TT gets a new three dimensional single frame radiator grille and new air inlets at the front. Matrix LED lights are now available, while OLED rear lamps appear on the options list for the first time. New alloy wheel designs feature, alongside three new colours: Turbo Blue, Pulse Orange and Cosmos Blue.

The updated TT inherits Audi’s new power-based nomenclature to distinguish the three engine variants; the basic car badged 40 TFSI uses a 194bhp 2.0-litre, while a 245bhp 2.0-litre is found in the 45 TFSI.

The TT S gets an even more potent 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, but due to a new particulate filter power has been cut from 306bhp to 302bhp. An extra 20Nm of torque sees the 0-62mph sprint cut by one tenth of a second (now 4.5 seconds), however. The TT S is only available with Audi’s S tronic dual-clutch auto and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi has axed the diesel-powered TT.

When the current car launched in 2014, the TT was the first car to feature Audi’s Virtual Cockpit dials; for 2019, buyers will be able to spec an optional Sport display, which provides RS-style engine, torque and G-force info directly ahead of the driver. The system is standard on the TT S.

UK specs haven’t been confirmed, but the revised TT is expected to carry over the outgoing model’s Sport and S line trim structure. Audi says all cars will come with the Drive Select dynamic handling system, as well as auto lights and wipers, heated door mirrors and a multifunction steering wheel. Illuminated USB ports and Bluetooth will also feature, while options include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo.

A new TT S Black Edition will sit at the top of the 2019 model range, with LED lights, special decals and a fixed rear wing. This version also gets 20-inch gloss black wheels and different leather packs inside.

In addition to the small changes made across the range, Audi will also offer a limited-run TT 20 Years anniversary model to mark the launch of the original TT in 1998. Restricted to 999 cars, it gets a selection of unique details including Moccasin Brown leather, bespoke badging and a choice of two grey paint options. It isn’t clear how many will come to the UK, nor how much it will cost.

Prices for the rest of the range haven’t been announced, but Audi has given a £45,000 estimate for the flagship TT S Coupe. That’s a near-£2,500 premium over the outgoing car, which should suggest a five per cent increase elsewhere in the range – with the basic 40 TFSI Sport likely to cost a little over £30,000.
