Best for build quality

Is your car free of squeaks and rattles? We name those that are.

Bulletproof – that’s how most owners describe their old-shape Lexus IS. We asked you to award five out of five if your car was free of squeaks and rattles, and is still as fresh inside and out as the day it left the factory.

Clearly, the ageing IS was put together with real care, as it topped our chart by some distance – leaving newer rivals trailing. The first-generation Honda Jazz came second – it’s another car that’s not showing its age.

Drivers of the latest Jazz aren’t quite as thrilled with their model’s construction, as it comes fourth, marginally behind Audi’s second-generation TT.

At the other end of the chart, five of the last six cars are French. But you tell us Vauxhall produces the worst-built car, in the shape of its old-shape Corsa.

The Winners 1. Lexus IS (old)“Excellent build quality reliable with excellent dealership support one of the best cars produced.” Mrs Laraine Morgan, Jarrow, South Tyneside 2. Honda Jazz (old) - "The Jazz is a remarkable car in every way. It is thoroughly reliable and economical to run and its carrying capacity is enormous. It is hard to fault.” Mr Philip Hayhoe, Birmingham, West Mids.

3. Audi TT/ Roadster (new)“Excellent car, great performance, no problems , easy to drive, stylish interior, excellent dealership, very friendly staff.” Mr Paul Worsley, Macclesfield, Cheshire.
