With top football players’ salaries now venturing past half a million a week, we look at what cars best suit their high-flying lifestyle
With transfer deadline day once again in the rearview mirror, many of the Premier League’s new signings will be plotting ways to spend their somewhat outrageous pay packets. Which is why here at Auto Express, we have taken the time to populate a list of cars that best suit the needs of a modern Footballer, aka cars many desire, but only the select few get to enjoy.

You may wonder why we have produced such as list, and the answer is simple. At Auto Express we never leave a reader behind, and albeit a small proportion, Footballers are a valued part of the Auto Express community. Yes, they buy some of the fastest, comfiest, most expensive cars on the market, and yes, that makes us incredibly jealous, but in the name of consumer advice we have pulled through.
On the face of it, it would be normal to assume all Footballers crave the limelight a bright pink Range Rover, a chrome plated Mercedes SLR McLaren, or even a camouflaged Bentley Continental GT would bring. But, while there are some of that ilk, a large number of the world’s sporting heavyweights don't want to chauffeur around their many watches with everyone gawping from the pavements.
Instead, they want to transport their kids, partner(s), and possibly their dog too. So out the window went road tax, fuel economy, and average cost of repair, and in came number of massage settings for the seats, top speed, size of the rear TV screens, and of course, cost when the options list is maxed out.
While the list of potentials was nothing short of awe inspiring, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Porsche, McLaren, Range Rover and more all had strong claims to make the list, but there could only be ten to triumph. By looking at previous trends in footballers’ preferences, such as Cristiano Ronaldo with his Ferrari LaFerrari, Lamborghini Aventador, and who can forget the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano he wrote-off in a tunnel, we were better able to establish what footballers’ lean towards. Whilst Ronaldo puts himself very much at the top of the performance ladder, there were others who were on a completely different ladder all together, an example being El-Hadji Diouf and his Cadillac Escalade.
So even though the latest and greatest exoctic hypercars, tuned supercars, and terribly ostentatious customised SUVs are not commonplace on the swooping driveways of the Premier League's elite, the final 10 cars we came up with are all excellent in their respective field. Whether it's mile munching, face bending, or dog carrying, if you are a footballer in the market for some new wheels, you will find what you need on the following list.
