Range Rover Evoque 2.2 eD4 Pure 2wd

Classy feel and quality extend to interior of the smallest Range Rover

Range Rover Evoque

You’ll need something special to trump the new Range Rover Evoque for kerb appeal. This is the latest must-have automotive fashion statement, but it backs up its cutting-edge looks with sharp handling and a practical cabin.

The base model has two-wheel drive, stop-start technology and produces 148bhp from its tried and tested 2.2-litre diesel. The result is 133g/km CO2 emissions and claimed fuel economy of 56.5mpg.

Best of all, the Evoque is arguably the most desirable car in the world – and the long waiting lists are good news for buyers at the front of the queue as they’re sure to keep resale values high.

In fact, running costs of 47.2ppm for a prestige model like this are scarcely credible – to put that in perspective, CAP says a SEAT Leon 1.6 TDI Ecomotive S Copa will cost the same. In contrast, the cheapest Audi Q5 in the range is the 2.0 TDI quattro, which will cost 64.8ppm.

The entry-level Evoque Pure is the cheapest in the range, but you still get enough luxuries to stay away from the options list. Climate control, a touchscreen DAB stereo, Bluetooth and mood lighting give the cabin a classy feel. And to attract more attention on the road than the Evoque does, you’ll have to spend pounds per mile, rather than pence.

Ross Pinnock, Road test editor

“The Evoque is currently the hottest car on the planet. Yet it costs as much to own as an efficient family hatch and can mix it with the best off-road – incredible.”
