Peugeot Partner Tepee 1.6 HDi 92 Outdoor

The Partner Tepee's sliding doors will appeal to families – as will its low running costs

Peugeot Partner Tepee

If you’re looking to spend some weekends away in the country, the Peugeot Partner Tepee should be just the ticket. With its rugged versatility, durable interior and frugal diesel engine, this boxy car is the perfect companion for action-packed family outings.

While its slab-sided looks are short on glamour, they hide a spacious cabin and huge 675-litre boot. What’s more, the sliding side doors make loading children in and out a doddle, while the interior is packed with useful storage space and cubbyholes for those outdoor essentials.

An entry-level Tepee S 1.6 HDi will cost you as little as 30.5 pence per mile to run, but we’d recommend spending an extra 5.4 pence per mile on the rugged Outdoor model. With its tough, off-roader-inspired body mouldings, air-conditioned cabin and useful roof bars, it’s a great choice for adventurous families.

Better still, you can select the £545 All Terrain pack, which adds mud and snow tyres, a clever electronic traction control system and extra underbody protection – ideal for escaping muddy fields or scrabbling along rutted country tracks. However, the Tepee is just as capable on tarmac.

Under its van-inspired body is a Peugeot 308 chassis, which gives a composed and car-like driving experience. Don’t expect neck-snapping pace from the smooth 92bhp 1.6-litre diesel, but the Tepee has no trouble keeping up with fast-flowing traffic and promises a superb 53.3mpg.

As you’re spending only 37.1 pence per mile to run the car, you’ll be able to splash out on the best pitch at the campsite.

Darren Wilson, Art director

“We ran a Tepee on our fleet in 2008, and I looked after it. At first I wasn’t sure about the boxy body, but I was won over by the car’s pure practicality. It’s versatile on and off road with a massive load area and sliding doors.”
