2023 Cupra Ateca gets two new engines

Two petrol engines have joined the Cupra Ateca line up

The Cupra Ateca launched Cupra as a standalone brand back in 2018 and the hot SUV has just received a new selection of powertrains to broaden its appeal. Customers will be able to order the new specifications from July.

Just one engine has been offered with the Cupra Ateca until now - a 296bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine lifted from the Volkswagen Golf R hot hatch. Joining it in 2023 are two more petrol engines, a 1.5-litre TSI unit with 148bhp and a 2.0-litre TSI with 190bhp.

A seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission is mated to both new engines, with power sent solely to the front wheels in the 1.5-litre model and the 2.0-litre version retaining the 296bhp car’s all-wheel drive.

The new offerings look broadly the same as the existing Cupra Ateca, although there’s a new diffuser on the rear. The interior still features Cupra’s sports seats, a bespoke Cupra steering wheel, and the brand’s signature colourway of copper stitching.

Pricing for the 1.5-litre Cupra Ateca starts from £34,770, with the 2.0-litre starting from £38,550. In comparison, the 296bhp model starts from £42,725. Production for the new models will begin later this summer.
