New Fiat 500 2020 review - pictures

Pictures of the first drive in the new electric Fiat 500

  • We’re hoping our prototype’s light steering will be sorted for UK cars. Otherwise, the 500 is nicely set up for urban driving, with a tight turning circle and three driving modes

  • It’s a little longer, wider and taller than the Mk2 car, but you’d be hard pressed to know that in isolation

  • The cabrio’s roof folds as before, which means rear visibility is poor when it’s fully retracted. The boot is a little larger than a Honda e’s, but here the rear seat backs are split, although they leave a hefty floor step

  • The la Prima cars get these snazzy 17-inch alloys; with them fitted, the 500’s ride quality is firm but fine. Other trim levels will have smaller wheels, which can only mean good things on the UK’s poor road surfaces

  • An official range of 199 miles is good for a city car, although the 30-mile boost in five minutes is sure to be a big draw. The 42kWh battery pack is located under the seats, and the charge socket on the offside of the car

  • Fiat has nailed the driving position in the Mk3 500, but the rear seats are best kept for the kids
