New 2023 Ford Ranger Platinum revealed

Luxury edition of new Ranger joins expanded pick-up truck line-up

A new range-topping Ford Ranger Platinum has been revealed, as the firm seeks to expand the appeal of its latest pick-up truck. The Platinum badge is one that's already used on upmarket versions of its US market trucks and SUVs such as the F-150 and Expedition, and the new Ranger Platinum has been given a unique look to help it stand out from the rest of the Ranger line-up.

Ford has given it 'silk chrome' trim on the outside, as well as a unique grille design in the same finish, while 20-inch machined alloy wheels with black detailing are fitted as standard. Inside, perforated and quilted leather seats with 10-way adjustment and heating and cooling add a plush feel, while open-grained maple wood trim and LED ambient lighting is included, as is an eight-speaker B&O sound system.

There's a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, plus a 12-inch portrait touchscreen. This features SYNC 4 infotainment and a FordPass Connect modem that offers over-the-air updates and remote access to the truck via a smartphone.

Power for the Ranger Platinum comes exclusively from Ford's new 3.0-litre V6 diesel, which makes 237bhp and 600Nm of torque for effortless towing to a maximum capacity of 3.5 tonnes. The motor is connected to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and the new Ranger's permanent four-wheel drive system. Ford quotes WLTP-tested fuel economy of up to 28.2mpg for the V6 diesel. Prices for the Ford Ranger Platinum start from £44,400 excluding VAT, and it's on sale now with deliveries expected from late spring 2023.

Speaking about the new Ranger Platinum, Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Pro Europe, said: “The Ford Ranger has set the standard for performance, versatility and capability in the pick-up segment, and now it’s setting the standard for luxury. The new Platinum will suit customers who appreciate the level of comfort and technology from high-end road cars, but who rely on the toughness and all-round productivity that consistently make the Ranger Europe’s pickup sales leader.”

2023 Ford Ranger XL and XLT prices revealed

As well as the arrival of the Ranger Platinum, Ford has also confirmed pricing for the entry-level Rangers, which are now for sale alongside the Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor models. The XL version will be available as a double cab, single cab and chassis cab for conversion, but there is no extended cab variant this time around. XL trim is the only version of the new Ranger that's available with anything other than a double cab body.

The chassis cabs starts from £27,550 ex.VAT before adding a conversion body, while the single cab is from £28,275. The cheapest double cab is the XL model costing £29,800, while upgrading to XLT trim sees the price rise to £31,150 ex.VAT.

All versions of the new 2023 Ford Ranger are available to order now, with deliveries due to start towards the end of the Spring. Stay tuned to Auto Express to find out what the new Ranger is like on UK roads early next year.
