Hyundai i20 (2014 - 2020) review - Reliability and safety

The i20's five-year warranty gives peace of mind, while Hyundai customer satisfaction is improving.

In recent years, Hyundai has gained a reputation for building durable cars, and the i20 managed a 68th place finish out of 75 cars in the 2020 Driver Power customer survey survey. Hyundai itself has shown signs of improvement over recent years, with 22nd position out of 30 manufacturers in 2019 and 13th spot in 2020.

Standard safety kit is good, with all versions featuring six airbags, while SE-spec cars feature Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist and Lane Keep Assist.

Euro NCAP tested the i20 in 2015 and awarded it a four-star rating (out of a possible five). There were good scores for adult and child protection, with 85% and 73%, respectively, although the safety assist category was only rated at 64%.

Warranty

Hyundai offers an excellent five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, although Kia includes an extra two years for its vehicles.

Servicing

Servicing intervals for the i20 are 12 months or 12,000 miles, and Hyundai offers servicing plans to help cover maintenance costs.
