The new Mercedes GLC Coupe is designed as a direct rival to the BMW X4

Compared to the standard GLC the Coupe has a sloping roofline and sits 40mm lower

Styling from the rear is less brash-looking than the larger GLE Coupe

Fuel economy and CO2 figures are the same as standard GLC

Coupe is 76mm longer and 40mm wider than the standard GLC

The sleeker looks come at a premium as spec-for-spec it’s around £3,000 more expensive then the GLC its based on

Launch engines include a selection of four or six-cylinder diesels under Mercedes' now familiar 220d, 250d and 350d nomenclature. An AMG 43 version is expected later

19" alloy wheels are fitted to the test car

All models at launch include Mercedes' 4MATIC  four-wheel drive system

Interior is shared with standard GLC and offers the usual quality buyers expect

Mercedes' COMAND interface still isn't quite as intuitive as rival BMW's iDrive system

Controls for adjusting the electric seats are fitted to the door

Rear seat headroom is slightly restricted due to the roofline

Boot capacity is 59 litres down on the standard GLC’s but on a par with the BMW X4
