BeSafe iZi Flex Fix i-Size booster car seat review

The BeSafe iZi Flex Fix i-Size is a high-back booster seat that majors on comfort and safety

Verdict

The BeSafe iZi Flex Fix i-Size is one of the most expensive booster seats available, but it really feels like a premium product. It’s comfortable, looks great and is packed with safety kit.

  • Price: Around £220

There are many child car seats that claim to be suitable for almost every stage of your child’s growth, but the reality is that these seats can feel cramped as your loved one starts to reach around five/six years of age. Therefore, the traditional booster seat is still very much an essential piece of kit for most parents.

There is no shortage of booster seats on the market, ranging from small seats that your child sits on to high-back seats that offer plenty of all-round protection. However, if you really want to stand out from the crowd then the smart-looking iZi Flex Fix i-Size from Norwegian brand BeSafe could be the seat for you. It’s suitable for children from four years of age right up until they are 12, and comes in a choice of seven different colours.

It’s one of the most expensive booster seats available, retailing at around £220 from the majority of stores we searched, but you really get what you pay for. The only real rival at this price point is the Silver Cross Discover i-Size, but, like that seat, the materials used feel extremely high quality and the look and feel proves this is a premium product.

This high-quality impression carries over to comfort, and our tester never once complained of being uncomfortable during our two-week trial. In fact, he loved the freedom he had to move about and often rested his head on the padded headrest during longer journeys. We also found raising the headrest up and down extremely easy with the toggle on the side of the seat.

As you’d expect from BeSafe, it’s packed full of kit to protect your child, including side impact protection (SIP+), chin and chest protection and a useful lapbelt guider to ensure the seatbelt is in the correct position. The latter is easy to use, which makes securing your child in place a breeze. It’s so simple, that our tester was even instructing us how to do it after just a couple of trips.

The only real issue we had was the installation process. As with other BeSafe seats, we found it quite difficult to take it in and out of the car, as you really have to push down on the two levers to disconnect it from the Isofix anchor points. This process is much simpler in the majority of other seats, but it’s something that does become easier the more times you do it. Plus, most people are unlikely to remove booster seats on a regular basis, so it shouldn’t really detract from what is otherwise a great seat.
