New Renault trim structure for Clio, Captur and Megane

Simplified trim levels makes three Renault models cheaper to buy, with top-spec Captur seeing a £1,755 price drop

Renault Captur front 3/4

Intended to make the Clio, Captur and Megane - both hatch and Sport Tourer - ranges easier for buyers to understand, each now consists of three levels: Play, Iconic and GT Line.

Available to order now, prices have dropped across the range despite the fact that standard equipment levels have improved in some cases.

2019 Renault Clio spied for the first time

Play kicks off each line-up, effectively taking the place of the Expression and Expression+. This means that the Clio Play features standard 16-inch alloy wheels, DAB Radio, air conditioning, satellite navigation and Renault’s R&GO smartphone app.

Unlike the model it replaces, the Captur Play features the two-tone contrasting roof paint finish as standard. The entry points for the Clio, Captur and Megane ranges have dropped by £445, £315, and £475 respectively.

The Iconic trim level is most closely matched to the old Dynamique Nav. The Clio Iconic represents a £254 saving, despite the addition of black 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and rear privacy glass. The Captur Play also gains rear sensors and privacy glass, yet is £405 cheaper than the old Dynamique Nav. The Megane Iconic costs £18,415 for the hatch and £19,615 for the Sports Tourer - falls of £875 and £735 respectively.

The GT Line was already featured in the Megane and Megane Sport Tourer range - though prices have reduced by £575 and £435 - and that trim’s silver diffuser and contrasting door mirrors are also applied to the Clio, where it costs £525 less than the outgoing Dynamique S.

The biggest reduction comes at the top of the Captur range. Here it replaces the Signature X Nav, and is priced from £18,300 - £1,755 less than before.
