A fresh category for 2018, the first winner of the new Pick-Up truck tow car award is the Volkswagen Amarok.
Undergoing assessment in Highline trim, with the more potent 221bhp 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine under the bonnet, the VW Amarok was described by judges as “anything but rough and ready,” highlighting its performance and stability on the hill course route as particularly impressive.
The Amarok saw off competition from the Nissan Navara, SsangYong Musso and even the Mitsubishi L200 – the truck we named our Pick-up of the Year at the 2017 Auto Express New Car Awards.
With a maximum torque figure of 550Nm, the Amarok boasts a maximum braked towing weight of 3,100kg, while a rear load space of 2.5 square metres means it boasts one of the largest load beds of any double cab pick-up on sale in Britain. It’s available with an electric tow bar too, priced at £225 on the options list.
