TomTom GO LIVE 1005 World

Price: £329.99 Contact: 0845 161 0009, www.tomtom.com

This packs a massive punch, and drivers who use satellite navigation every day will learn to love the GO LIVE 1005 World, but we prefer TomTom’s cheaper 825 and the two Garmins. The menus are tricky to get out of (the back button swaps sides, which is irritating on the move) and we’re not sure we’d use the additional features every day (do you really need to tell people on Twitter that you’ve arrived at a destination?). There are maps for the UK, Europe and the rest of the world, but the basics are all covered by the cheaper 1695.
