BMW 2 Series spied
Latest spy pictures give us our best look yet at the all-new BMW 2 Series Coupe and Cabriolet
These are the first spy shots of the upcoming BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, testing on public roads in Germany.
Both cars are wearing heavy disguises, but it’s clear to see that BMW is taking the design of its replacements for the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible in a sportier direction.
Both cars feature swept-back headlights with LED elements and more aggressive noses. The cars also get low slung bodies, LED tail-lights and twin exhausts to hint at their sporting intent.
As with the new BMW 4 Series Coupe - which will be previewed at next month’s Detroit Motor Show - BMW will rename the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible as the 2 Series. That means that BMW’s line-up will run from 1 Series through to 7 Series with no gaps in between.
When the 2 Series Coupe arrives in late 2013, it will be based on the same platform and the same range of engines as in the current 1 Series hatch, including the 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol units and 2.0-litre diesels.
As with the 1 Series, high performance 235i and M2 models are also expected to join the line-up later in the car’s life.
All of these engines are to be connected to either a six-speed manual or an eight speed automatic gearbox, and BMW’s xDrive four-wheel drive system is expected to be offered, although BMW is yet to confirm whether it will be sold in the UK.
