New Ultima RS launched with up to 1,200bhp
Ultima has built a new, faster version of the road-legal Evolution Coupe, powered by a supercharged V8 engine with as much as 1,200bhp
British supercar manufacturer, Ultima, has built a more powerful, better handling version of its Evolution Coupe, called the RS. Updates include a more powerful engine, a reworked chassis setup, a lightly facelifted version of its fibreglass body and a revised aero package. Ultima claims the most basic RS is priced similarly to the BMW M3, at around £60,000.
The Ultima RS is powered by a 6.2-litre V8, lifted from the Chevrolet Corvette, in four states of tune. Options include the 480bhp LT1, the 650bhp LT4, and two versions of the supercharged LT5 - with either 800bhp or a Bugatti Chiron-worrying 1,200bhp. All four engines feed their power to the rear wheels via a Porsche-sourced six-speed manual gearbox.
In its most potent tune, the Ultima RS is a melting-point of impressive statistics. Ultima claims a 0–60mph time of 2.3 seconds, a 0–100mph time of 4.8 seconds and a 0–150mph time of 8.9 seconds. Top speed stands at around 250mph, while the new Ultima RS will cover the standing quarter mile in 9.2 seconds; quicker than a Mercedes A180 will go from 0–62mph.
Chassis-wise, the Ultima RS comes with a unique set of 19-inch alloy wheels, custom-made fully adjustable coilovers, adjustable AP brakes, a full roll cage and high performance Michelin tyres. The Ultima’s space frame has also been updated to cope with the extra grunt and buyers can spec a set of larger 362mm disc brakes with six-pot calipers.
Styling updates are limited to a new set of LED headlights and a reprofiled front and rear canopy, designed to suit the larger 19-inch alloys. The Ultima RS also comes with a suite of aerodynamic revisions, all of which are hewn from carbon fibre. These include a larger front splitter, dive planes, new side skirts, an optional rear diffuser and an adjustable rear wing.
Inside, the Ultima RS gets a set of leather and Alcantara-trimmed bucket seats, ‘Ultima RS’ branded instruments, air conditioning and a digital dashboard with a data logging function. Optional extras include a leather-trimmed roll cage, carpets and an Alpine infotainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
